Grodan Macroplugs are round stone wool starter plugs for propagation, made to support uniform rooting and strong early plant development from seed or cuttings. They’re a propagation plug and a stone wool growing media option for growers who want consistent results in the first stage.
Macroplugs are built around a highly uniform fiber structure with dependable firmness, which helps keep performance consistent from plug to plug. That uniform density supports a balanced distribution of water and nutrients through the plug, which can benefit rooting and early plant development when uniformity matters. The finely woven stone wool also creates a supportive environment for young roots, helping crops start more evenly across a batch.
This substrate is made from stone wool, a lightweight and absorbent material that is structurally sound for handling during propagation workflows. It’s also a homogenous growing medium, which supports more predictable moisture behavior when you’re aiming for consistent plant growth. Grodan also notes that water and nutrients do not bind to the stone wool fibers, helping keep what reaches the root zone available rather than tied up in the media.
Grodan Macroplugs are offered as round plugs with a slit option designed to accommodate a cutting while keeping the plug structure intact. The stone wool includes hydrophilic fibers that promote rapid and even water distribution throughout the plug, supporting excellent buffer and re-saturation capability. The manufacturing process is also designed to avoid pathogens and unwanted seeds, helping keep starts cleaner and more consistent.
This product is a good fit for growers who want a uniform propagation plug that supports reliable rooting, consistent moisture distribution, and easy handling in professional propagation setups.
Basalt mostly helps plants indirectly by improving the root-zone environment through better drainage, oxygen flow, and long-term soil stability, while only slowly contributing minerals as it weathers over time. It’s unique because its biggest benefits come from physical soil performance and consistency rather than quick nutrient release like fast-acting amendments.
Chalk rock helps stabilize the root-zone by buffering against sudden pH drops while slowly contributing calcium, which supports strong roots and healthy new growth. It’s unique because it actively resists rapid acidity shifts instead of behaving like a purely inert media ingredient.
A hydrophilic binder acts like a water-loving glue that helps tiny particles stay evenly placed while also helping water spread and re-wet more uniformly, which supports steadier root function. It’s unique because it improves both physical cohesion and water behavior at the same time, unlike simple adhesives or simple wetting ingredients that only do one job.
